Henry Simonds' "The Doodleplex" commissioned by TRYP Hotel Pittsburgh

My first commission for a public work of art was for the TRYP Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pa. Casey Droege of CDCP was consulted to bring local art into the rehabilitated school building in the Lawrenceville neighborhood and did a RFP. I was selected to create a piece in the 1st floor lobby that was inspired by and housed on the former printing and mimeography floor of this long-standing trade school. I choose to highlight the creative work done while students were distracted and doodling, but honored the skills and trades that were taught there in the presentation of the pieces. Local art is featured and highlighted throughout the building and is a genuinely driving force in its appeal to guests and visitors alike.
